Overview
Your adventure to the West Coast will commence the moment you reach the Christchurch railway station. Boarding the TranzAlpine train, sit back and relax as you depart through the Canterbury plains to emerge into the spectacular Southern Alps. Surrounded by striking natural landscapes, you’ll soon discover why this is one of the world’s greatest train journeys. Indulge in morning tea and lunch onboard as you experience vast landscapes and plunging ravines, over braided rivers and past alpine lakes.
On arrival on the West Coast, your transfer will be awaiting. Set off for the next part of your adventure and enjoy 45-minutes of incredible scenic views along Great Coast Road. Before you know it, you will arrive at the famous Punakaiki Pancake Rocks. Discover the curious limestone formations and blowholes formed over millennia and shaped by the unique West Coast environment before heading back to your accommodation for the evening.

Nestled on the West Coast, Hokitika Gorge is a true natural gem that showcases the country's untouched, raw beauty. This will be your first stop on this unforgettable day. After a leisurely stroll along the forest tracks and witnessing the bright blue glacial water, head along to your next activity, the West Coast Tree Top Walkway.
Immersed in a canopy of ancient Rimu and Kamahi trees, discover the ecology and history of the forest through interactive displays and informative signage while admiring the 360 degree views along the way.
Shortly after 1pm, it will be time to board the TranzAlpine train for your scenic journey back through the Southern Alps to Christchurch.
As a final treat, you'll enjoy afternoon tea whilst gliding through the lush valleys of Otira and across the high plains of Cass and Cragieburn aboard this wondrous train journey.
