Catching the Northern Explorer from Papakura Station
You can catch the Auckland to Wellington train from Papakura Station. Located in south Auckland, Papakura Station is the closest to Auckland Airport, although we recommend you do not book your train to connect directly with a flight. Our Scenic rail journeys travel through remote and challenging terrain and weather conditions, which can result in delays.
Please book in advance to ensure the train stops at Papakura Station.

Northern Explorer Check In
- Arrive at Station 20 minutes early
- Wait near the centre of the platform for the train to arrive
- A crew member will greet you on the platform once the train has arrived to check you in and provide you with your Boarding Pass and Luggage Labels.
- All wheeled bags, large backpacks, and suitcases will need to be taken to the Luggage Carriage.
