Coastal Pacific train to Christchurch

Located in the heart of town, Picton Railway Station provides easy walking access to the town centre and ferry terminals. The Interislander Cook Strait ferry connects with the Coastal Pacific for an easy onward journey to Wellington.  

You cannot buy tickets for the Coastal Pacific at Picton Station. You must book online or call our Travel Centre in advance. Standing is not allowed, so if all seats are sold out, you will not be able to travel. 

From Wellington: 

Let our Wellington check-in staff know you are connecting directly to the Coastal Pacific train in Picton and they'll transfer your bags for you. 

However from 24th November you will still need to check-in for the Coastal Pacific at the GJNZ counter in the Interislander terminal in Picton as well. 

Coastal Pacific check-in is changing

  • From 24th November passengers will check in at the Interislander terminal, located immediately to the left of the doors closest to the train station.

  • Arrive at the Picton Interislander terminal from 11am onwards for check-in at the GJNZ desk

  • Luggage will be collected and tagged at the check-in area.

  • Staff will ensure all wheeled bags, large backpacks, and suitcases will be taken to the train luggage carriage

  • Collect your boarding passes 

  • Check-in closes 20 minutes (1:20pm) before departure at 1:40pm 

  • Passengers will be advised to return to the Picton rail platform by 1:25pm for boarding. Interislander will also make a boarding call within the terminal
