Wellington is the southern terminal of the Northern Explorer. The station is conveniently located at the heart of the CBD (Central Business District), which makes the Northern Explorer and excellent way to travel into the heart of Wellington (see our page on Wellington for ideas of things to do and places to stay).

Northern Explorer Wellington to Auckland trains depart from on Wednesdays, Fridays and Sundays.
Auckland to Wellington trains arrive in the evenings on Monday, Thursday and Saturday.
You can enquire at the Check-in desk on the day of travel if tickets are available. However, we strongly encourage you to book online in advance.
Northern Explorer Check In
- Check-in desk opens at 7:00am inside the station
- All wheeled cabin bags, large bags, backpacks and suitcases must be checked-in
- Pack a small bag with valuables and medicines to bring aboard for the journey
- Check-in closes 20 minutes before departure
