As train lovers, we are always up for a scenic railway trip that's more than just a commute. The TranzAlpine, a train that snakes through New Zealand's South Island, totally delivers on that promise. Opting for Scenic Plus, we indulged in exquisite dishes prepared with fresh local produce, served right to our seats. Imagine savouring a South Island hot smoked salmon hash, complete with creamy avocado, tangy lemon, and mustard crème fraiche, all drizzled with chili oil. Or the tender, slow-braised Canterbury lamb shoulder accompanied by buttery potatoes, rich wine jus, fresh local greens, and a vibrant salsa verde. Just thinking about it makes us crave for more!
